Apart from the terrific way Constable always handles clouds, I like how this sketch is composed, it’s not just a note of a cloud formation. He anchors it with the tops of trees and frames it with a balancing cloud coming in from the upper left… so that it looks the way a camera snapshot would look as opposed to the way he would transfer it onto landscape painting
